In our humble opinion, we truly believe that every home should have solid gutters. Whether your home’s gutters have really run their race and need to be replaced or you need to add a set of gutters to your home in the first place, shopping for gutters always brings up a main question – how much do gutters cost? Well, in all honesty, it depends.
Gutter Cost is Affected By:
The Amount of Gutters You Need
This is pretty much common sense. The smaller the area is that you have to cover, the less you’ll spend on gutters. However, if you have a larger home with more square footage, you’re likely going to end up needing more gutters and therefore spending more.
The Material The Gutter is Made Out Of:
Once you’ve got the square footage out-of-the-way, a big thing that affects how much gutters cost is what material the gutters are made out of, as certain materials are more expensive than others.
Vinyl
Vinyl cutters are the least expensive option you can choose, typically costing less than four dollars per foot. However, this material tends to break easily and isn’t really suitable for colder climates.
Galvanized Steel
Small step above vinyl is galvanized steel gutters. These run around $4-$8 per foot, but you’ll likely have to replace them more often since steel rusts.
Aluminum
Aluminum is the most common material used for gutters, as it doesn’t rust and is easy to install. Seamless gutters are also made of aluminum, and this material can come in a variety of colors. Give or take, aluminum costs about $10-$15 per foot.
Stainless Steel
Stainless steel gutters are on the more expensive side, costing about $20 per foot, but they have many advantages including the fact that they don’t rust and can be painted to match your home’s color. However, if you paint them, you’ll have to do so regularly since paint chips over time.
Copper
Coming in at the most expensive material is copper. This typically costs around $30 per foot and is usually the material used for historic or high-end homes. The downside is that, since it is valuable, copper gutters can sometimes make your home a target for thieves who would steal the material.
No matter what colors you choose, one thing holds true — you should protect them and your home but using gutter protection systems.
