At the beginning of every year, industries predict what trends will be most popular during the months to come. This is the case even in the gutter and roofing industries, so here are some predicted roofing trends for 2017.
Shingles versus Tiles
Asphalt tiles are a popular choice for roofing materials since they are lightweight and inexpensive. However, their quick lifespan (usually seven to fifteen years) makes them the shortest lasting option on the market. Roofing tiles are on the rise due to their appearance and lifespan (usually 20-25 years). The only catch with these is the potential need for a structurally stronger roof, since tiles are heavier than shingles.
Green Roofs
Mostly a European trend, green roofs allow you to grow greenery or vegetables on your roof, and are popping up in a number of major U.S. cities. There are even incentive programs in certain cities for planting green roofs. Since there is a specific system that goes into having a green roof, including a waterproof membrane to protect your home, this option is better suited for newer homes with the ability to create more structural support.
Gutters
It’s no secret that gutters are probably the least glamorous part of your home, but there is also no denying their necessity. Gutters move water away from your home’s foundation and prevent rainwater from dripping off your roof and into your yard which creates trenches. Some homes come with gutters, but others will require the purchase of a new set. In 2017, climate shifts will have more homeowners buying these essential roofing accessories.
